The story of Sedna

After Tom Muir had told us some traditional Orkney folk tales about the sea, he told us the ancient Inuit creation story of Sedna. We are going to make a felt picture based on the story with Christina Sargent.

Today we found out about  the felting process and experimented with making balls, rope and octopuses.
We made drawings of the main characters and elements of the story and then made templates.

In two weeks we will make the big picture.
Its going to be messy and very wet!

Here is a video of how the four schools made their felts.

RIDERZ!

The Riderz visited the skatepark this week and showed the whole school some stunts.

They did some impressive stunts and jumps.
Using different types of bikes they tackled obstacles over 2 metres high.
You can visit their website here.

The visit was organised by Kick Start Kirkwall and Cycle Scotland's 'Cycle to School' campaign to promote safe cycling and driver awareness.
